Florida hearts were further broken by Georgia RB who was supposed to be a Gator

A loss in a rivalry game always stings, but it hurts even more when it comes at the hands of a player who could have (and probably should have) been on your own roster.

That's exactly what happened to the Gators as they saw their hopes for upsetting the Georgia Bulldogs fade into oblivion. Running back Chauncey Bowens committed to the Florida Gators during his recruitment process, then he flipped his commitment to the Dawgs, leaving Florida high and dry.

As the Gators and the Bulldogs clashed on Saturday, Bowens twisted the dagger as he earned an impressive 70 yards to, quite literally, push Georgia to its 24-20 victory.

In fact, as the fourth quarter came down to the wire, Bowens was the Georgia player who ran in the game-winning touchdown, and was the only running back on Georgia's roster to find the end zone during the game.

Just like that, Bowens broke the hearts of Gator fans all over again, sending them into a deeper spiral of despair than they were already in.

Bowens, of course, originally committed to Florida when former head coach Billy Napier was still in charge of the show in Gainesville. Just a couple of weeks ago, Napier was fired, and the Cocktail Party was the Gators' first game under interim head coach Billy Gonzales.

With the loss, Florida dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-3 against SEC opponents. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play, with their only loss coming at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

As Bowens and the rest of Georgia turn their focus to their upcoming game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the Gators have to prepare for the Kentucky Wildcats, who have yet to secure a win over an SEC opponent.

Florida and Kentucky are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 8, and the game will be available on the SEC Network.
