One of the exciting parts about the start of spring practice is that Gator fans get their first glimpse of an array of new players, both freshmen and transfers. Social media clips on Tuesday highlighted players like Aaron Philo, Emmanuel Oyebadejo, and Davian Groce, among others, as Florida looks to improve upon its 4-8 campaign from 2025.
But there was another newcomer who had far less fanfare this offseason who caught the eye of people well beyond the scope of Gainesville.
Heze Kent goes viral after Florida spring practice
A couple of clips of freshman tight end Heze Kent started to circulate on social media on Tuesday. Heze himself didn’t do anything crazy in the clips other than run out for a basic route and catch the ball.
But what caught the attention of everyone was the sheer size of Heze and whether or not he is in the correct position group. Heze is listed at 6’6” and 313 pounds, and he looks every bit of it. This led to multiple accounts, including Brooks Austin, wondering aloud how long it is until Kent moves to offensive tackle.
Your knees and bank account will thank you if you make the position change you’re avoiding. https://t.co/rh0Sm576zP

The notable part is that Kent did play offensive tackle in high school. As a tight end, he had 674 yards receiving during his senior campaign, but he was also considered one of the top-ranked offensive tackles in Georgia.
Jon Sumrall talked about Kent during his press conference after his first practice:
“(Kent) is a different body type. He's got to lose a little bit of weight. He knows that. He moves better than you think you would at that weight.
And he's got unbelievably natural ball skills. We've got to get him down so he can play at a high level all the time. But I'm excited about what that could look like for him. And he's doing some good things.”
We’ll see which spot Kent actually sticks with. Amir Jackson and transfer Lacota Dippre figure to be Florida’s two main tight ends for 2026. But it is good for Florida and Kent to have options if needed.
