Florida Softball just suffered one of the more surprising defeats of the 2025 season when it went on the road and fell to UCF 4-0. The Gators had been off since last Thursday, and whether it was rust or something else, the bats for Florida never got going.
Florida had just five hits and one walk, and only three times had a runner in scoring position. UCF had two separate two-run homers for their offense to avenge an earlier 3-0 loss to the Gators.
Florida will now hit the road to take on Auburn this weekend before a midweek game against FSU next week.
Lacrosse gets another close win
It took overtime, but Florida was able to grind out another close win to move to 8-2 on the season. The No. 7 Gators traveled to Philadelphia to take on No. 15 Penn.
After being tied at halftime at 4-4, Penn was able to open up a gap in the third quarter and take a 8-5 lead before the Gators clawed it back to 8-8.
The two squads went back and forth, and it looked like Penn might squeak it out with a goal with 43 seconds remaining to go up 12-11, but Kaitlyn Davies scored a free-position goal with 13 seconds left to tie it back up.
Just five seconds into overtime Gianna Monaco gathered a loose ball and scored to give Florida the win.
Men's 800 Free Relay Earns All-American Honors
Out in the suburbs of Seattle, the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships are taking place. Alexander Painter, Julian Smith, Jake Mitchell, and Oskar Lindholm teamed up to come in 8th place in the 800 Free Relay with a time of 6:06.96.
The time is the third fastest in program history.
Florida thought they had won the 200 medley relay but were disqualified due to an early takeoff on an exchange.
