During his time with the Florida Gators, R.J. Moten was mostly used as a rotational safety/linebacker. After taking 400+ snaps during both years he played with Michigan, Moten came to Gainesville, was burned on the first play against Utah, and took a combined 276 snaps during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

He went undrafted but made the most of it and spent this past spring in the UFL, playing for the Michigan Panthers.

Moten was impressive enough that he has signed with the New England Patriots after New England had two players of their own go down with injuries.

It's unclear what the odds are for Moten to make the squad, but he had previously been with New England at their rookie mini-camp.

Colin Castleton gets released

Since leaving the Gators, former center Colin Castleton has bounced around the NBA. He has already had stints with the Lakers, Grizzlies, Magic, and 76ers.

He signed a two-year deal with the Toronto Raptors back in April, and there was hope that he had found a stable home for the 2025-26 season.

But while the Raptors did well in NBA Summer League, as did former Gator Alijah Martin, Castleton did not.

He averaged 2.6 points on 33% shooting and 4.0 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game over five games.

This, in part, has led Toronto to waive Castleton and make him a free agent heading into next season. We'll see if anyone else tries to kick the tires on Castleton or if he winds up having to head overseas to continue his basketball career.

Gators add a PWO for 2025

Usually, preferred walk-ons don't make too much noise on the field, but they are a valuable part of the practice squad, and sometimes they can rise up into a scholarship position.

Brian Case is a running back listed at 6'0" and 200 pounds. The Ponte Vedra native was unranked by recruiting services, but he did have an offer from FAU.

Case took to social media yesterday to announce that he was joining the Gators as a PWO.
