Florida took on Baylor in an exhibition game on Sunday, and all we can hope is that the Gators got a learning experience. Florida lost 82-76 in overtime.

And it’s not like Florida were playing a bunch of reserve guys. Todd Golden essentially stuck to an eight-man rotation and played all of the starters for more than 30 minutes, with Thomas Haugh playing 38 minutes.

The main issue for Florida was three-point shooting. The Gators were 4-for-29 from three, including a 0-for-10 afternoon from Denzel Aberdeen and 0-for-5 from Urban Klavzar.

Before anyone panics too much, note that Michigan lost to Cincinnati last year in an exhibition game. Michigan won the national championship while Cincinnati missed the NCAA Tournament. The odds of Florida going 4-for-29 from three all season long are minimal. But it is a worthwhile footnote that Florida isn’t invincible, even if they are the projected preseason No. 1 team.

Volleyball gets another big win over Texas

Florida’s dominance over Texas this weekend extended to volleyball as the Gators beat the No. 12-ranked Longhorns in five sets.

The key moment for Florida came in the 4th set. Down two sets to one, and down in the 4th set 23-21, the Gators ripped off four straight points to take the set. Alec Rothe and Kamryn Chaney picked up back-to-back kills to tie it at 23 and ultimately an attack error by Texas gave Florida the set.

In the 5th set, it was 11-10 in favor of Florida before a service error by Texas, a kill by Chaney, and a kill by Logan King created a gap that was closed out by a Florida block.

Combined with Florida beating Texas A&M on Friday, the Gators are now 15-2 overall and 6-1 in SEC play.

Soccer loses late

Florida Soccer dropped a tough one to Arkansas on Friday, losing 2-1. The Gators took a lead into halftime off a goal from Katie Johnston. The Razorbacks got one back in the 57th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

Then, with literally six seconds left in the game, Florida got caught out in transistion and gave up the game winner to lose 2-1.

The Gators are now 6-6-3 on the season and 2-4-2 in SEC play.
