After the men's basketball team for Florida won the national title, it was noted that the Florida Gators were now the first and only team to have three national titles in both men's basketball and in football.
The term "Everything School" has tried to be commandeered by others as this year has progressed, but if the national title wasn't enough to claim the throne, this weekend should have clinched it.
Florida Gators = Everything School
With the NCAA Baseball Tournament field announced, Florida is one of just 14 schools to have made a bowl game in football and made the NCAA Tournament in both men's basketball and baseball.
But why stop there?
Let's make a list of schools that accomplished the following this year:
- Sweet 16 or better in volleyball
- Eight or more wins in football
- Sweet 16 or better in March Madness
- Qualified for the Women's College World Series
- Elite Eight or better in women's lacrosse
- Top 25 RPI in baseball
- Made the match-play tournament for men's golf
Florida, Florida is the list.
Over the weekend, the Florida Gators beat Georgia to punch their ticket to the Women's College World Series. Florida had to battle back after a frustrating Game Two to eventually prevail in a winner-take-all Game Three.
They are off to Oklahoma City and will play Texas in its first game.
Men's golf also had a great weekend out at the national championships. After 72 holes, the Gators came in 3rd to make the eight-team cut for the match-play portion of the tournament.
Coincidently, Florida will square off against Texas in the quarterfinals.
There is a segment of the fanbase that might not care about anything besides football, and that's fine. No one is going to strap you down and force you to watch baseball, softball, or golf if you don't care about those sports.
But for those of us who enjoy a variety of sports and enjoy being engaged year-round and not just for three months, this time of year is always great to be a Florida Gator.
