Florida gains momentum towards landing a top 100 WR it looked out of the race for

Jon Sumrall has quietly put the Gators in a very favorable position to steal away a Top-100 wide receiver in class of 2027.

Jon Sumrall is on a mission. On January 23, Jaden Upshaw, a 2027 graduate out of Lee County High School in Leesburg Georgia released a list of his (at the time) “Final six.” Texas A&M, Southern California, Miami, Auburn, Tennessee, and Alabama were on the list. However, the University of Florida was not.

However, just 24 hours later Upshaw paid a visit to Gainesville for the Gators’ “Junior Day” in The Swamp. So one has to believe that Coach Sumrall in that 24 window made a call that left enough of an impression on Upshaw to get him to make that unofficial visit.

Four days later, Coach Sumrall said, ‘We’re locking him in’ and took a detour on their recruiting trail to pay a visit to Lee County High School with outside wide receiver’s coach Marcus Davis to visit with Upshaw some more and prove their commitment and dedication to him, his family, and wanting to make him a Gator.

Then just Sunday Upshaw posted on X that he has locked in an OFFICIAL visit to the Swamp.

So in a two week span things have heated up and gotten very interesting in the Upshaw camp.

The 6’2”, 202lbs wide receiver went from not having Florida on his list to being on 247 Sports’ list as a player who they feel good about committing to Florida.

Upshaw is ranked as a four-star receiver by On3 Rivals, along with being ranked as a four-star Composite athlete by 247Sports. They have him ranked as the No. 79 national recruit, the No. 15 wide receiver, and the No. 10 player out of Georgia. He is also ranked by ESPN as the No. 138th player on ESPN’s Jr300 list, with a four-star scouting grade of 81.

In 10 games played in 2025, Upshaw had 47 receptions for 902 yards and eight touchdowns. He averaged 19.2 yards per carry, 90.2 yards per game, with his longest being a 37 yard reception.

Over the course of his career the Junior out of Georgia has played in 32 varsity games, totaling 125 receptions for 1,964 yards and 22 touchdowns. He averages 15.7 yards per carry and 61.4 yards per game. The longest reception he had was his 37 yard reception in 2025.

As it stands now, Upshaw has offers from Auburn, Boston College, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Southern California.

Things will get interesting in the coming weeks and all eyes will be on Upshaw's next moves as the University of Florida makes their case to land the Top-100 recruit.
