Safety play was a bit of a sore spot during the Billy Napier Era. Florida safeties often felt far too passive, and it felt like the Gators needed someone more dynamic to fill the position.
As Jon Sumrall and crew fill up their official visitor list for this summer, they just landed a visit from a former Auburn commit who checks a ton of boxes that have been missing in Gainesville over the past few seasons.
Florida to get official visit from Jaylen Scott
Jaylen Scott is a safety from Mobile, AL. Listed at 6’0” and 160 pounds, he is considered a four-star by all three major services, with 247 ranking him the highest at 112th overall in the country and as the 10th best safety in the class of 2027.
On film, Scott is just a pure playmaker all around the field. His recovery speed and burst stand out right away, and he is able to bait opposing QBs into throws that look safe, but then get picked off. And when Scott does get the ball in his hands, whether it’s via an interception or when he returns kicks, he is a touchdown threat every single time.
But despite being a bit smaller at 160 pounds, Scott isn’t afraid to come downhill and deliver contact as if he were 190+ pounds.
Scott had committed to Auburn back in June, but he backed off the commitment in December when the Tigers underwent a coaching change. Huge Freeze was fired, and former USF coach Alex Golesh was hired for the 2026 campaign. Since his decommitment, Scott drew a ton of interest in January, with Georgia, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt all extending an offer, along with Florida.
Scott told 247 and On3 that he will be taking an official visit to Gainesville in May, the first official visit he has lined up, according to his 247 profile.
