The Florida Gators are in a heated battle with LSU, Texas A&M, and Nebraska for the No. 1 tight end in the 2027 recruiting class, Ahmad Hudson. But according to On3’s Corey Bender of Gators Online, Florida is gaining some ground and making a push to be the top candidate to land Hudson.
Hudson, a 6’7”, 240lbs high school junior at Ruston High School in Ruston, Louisiana is in the middle of a unique season as he is now ranked as a top-20 player in both football and basketball. And according to a May 20 post on X, Hudson declared his intentions to play both collegiately, simply stating, “PSA… my intentions are to play basketball and football at the collegiate level.” The question will be, which school(s) will give him the opportunity to play both?

Gabe Brooks of 247Sports describes Hudson as a player with a large, athletic pass-catching target. He has the ability to play at wideout or traditional attached tight end. He has a great knowledge of the game, is quick to react to the ball in the air, make adjustments, and control his body. And playing basketball could actually be benefiting him on the football field as well, as his jumping abilities and athleticism on the basketball court help him win football in the air. He can control his vertical jump and is good with his hands from receiving the ball on the court, allowing both sports to have a positive impact on his success in the other.
In 2024 on the football field, Hudson caught 41 passes for 718 yards, and scored six touchdowns. He was named the All-Ruston Daily Leader Newcomer of the year.
Florida sent Hudson an offer in August of last year for football. And as mentioned, he has also been sent offers from LSU, FSU, Miami, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Texas, and others.
From the sounds of it, it will likely come down to who will let the junior from Louisiana play dual sports during his collegiate years.
