When it comes to award season, it would be naive to think Florida Football was going to win a lot of honors. The Gators ended the season strong, but an overall record of 7-5 isn't going to bring a ton of hardware to Gainesville.

However, there is one particular member of the Gators who most would agree with who was worthy of honors. Oddly enough, he was just named an All-American after being left off of SEC honors.

Florida Football: Slaughterhouse

Jake Slaughter was just named a second-team All-American by CBS Sports/247. The redshirt junior center only allowed one sack on the season and was viewed as a huge asset in the run game. While Pro Football Focus grades are debatable, he was the highest-rated Power Four center in the country in 2024, with an overall grade of 81.2.

His inclusion to the All-American squad is especially notable because he was left off of the All-SEC squad that came out this week, along with virtually every other member of the Gators (long snapper Rocco Underwood was the only member to make it).

Slaughter originally came to Florida as a mid-tier three-star prospect as part of the class of 2021. He saw minimal action in 2021 and 2022 and was expected to sit behind Kingsley Eguakun in 2023. Injuries to Eguakun forced Slaughter into action, and he wound up taking 574 snaps in 2023.

Slaughter has one year of eligibility left, though he has yet to announce whether or not he will use that year or if he will depart for the NFL in 2025.
