Florida Football Recruiting: New commit Ty Jackson is a thumper
Florida Football's class of 2025 is finally gaining some momentum and had three commits to the program yesterday. The most notable of the three was four-star linebacker Ty Jackson out of Loxahatchee.
His flip from Southern Cal to Gainesville is a win for Billy Napier and should strengthen what is beginning to look like a deep linebacker unit.
Florida Football: Jacked Up!
Jackson is listed at 6'1" and 197 pounds and is a consensus four-star from all four services. Notably, ESPN has him listed as their number-one linebacker and 54th overall prospect, while Rivals has him the lowest at 233rd overall.
Overall size seems to be what has him low with Rivals and 247 (Myles Graham, for example, was 215 pounds coming out of high school), but his film paints a picture of a player who has the sole goal of striking fear into opposing ball carriers.
Jackson will hit you, and he will hit you hard. If ESPN was still doing their Jacked Up segment, Jackson would have gotten a spot on it. He seriously looks like he ragdolls ball carriers into oblivion and there has probably been a time or two when opposing running backs have said "I need a rest coach."
But Jackson can drop into coverage too and pick the ball off, which is why he will make for an intriguing prospect once he gets his size up to SEC level.
Jackson made an official visit to Florida back in June and was in attendance when Florida was smacked by Miami. As a result, Jackson committed to Southern Cal in early September.
However, given the season Southern Cal has had and the feeling of momentum Florida has after beating LSU and Ole Miss, Jackson has opted to flip his commitment to the Gators.
Florida now has 18 commits for the class of 2025 and is ranked 18th in the 247 Composite.
