Florida Football Recruiting: New commit Stephon Shivers is a big man who can move
Florida Football is slowly putting together its class of 2025. Earlier in the week, the Gators flipped FSU QB Tramell Jones, and Florida had a ton of prospects on campus for their victory over LSU over the weekend.
The Gators got more good news on Monday as Florida flipped a defensive lineman previously committed to Georgia.
Florida Football: Big man, nimble feet
Stephon Shivers is listed at 6'4" and 380 pounds out of Humboldt, TN. He is a composite three-star, with On3, 247, and Rivals all listed him as a three-star. ESPN does have Shivers ranked as a four-star.
On film, the size of Shivers pops out and it looks like he is a literal man playing against children. Despite his size, what stands out even more is his ability to move. In a viral clip from last season with Brentwood Academy, Shivers was inserted as a running back and galloped straight up the gut for a long touchdown. In his actual position, Shivers also explodes into the backfield far faster than one would expect a 380-pounder to do.
Whether or not he should be a four-star guy is up for debate. Going back to his film, the level of competition he was going up against is debatable. Plus, Georgia just had five-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin commit, so it's also debatable whether or not Shivers was the odd man out in Athens.
This is still a decent pickup for Florida, and Shivers fits the profile of an extremely athletic big man who has a high upside if he can refine some technical things once he gets on campus. One thing we always say with any prospect is that they need to be the most dominant player on film within three plays, and Shivers fits that profile.
With the commitment of Shivers, Florida is now 31st in the 247 Team Rankings for the class of 2025.
