One of the big gets for Florida Football in the class of 2025 was wide receiver Dallas Wilson. The Tampa native had been committed to Oregon and even signed on Early Signing Day to go play for the Ducks before a change of heart led him to flip to Florida.
There is a ton of excitement surrounding Wilson from Gator fans, but that excitement was not shared by 247 in their final class of 2025 rankings update.
Florida Football: Long Way Down
247 has its individual rankings and then its composite rankings that factor in ratings from all the major services. In the 247 individual rankings, Wilson was rated as the 26th-best prospect in the country and was considered a five-star prospect by the site.
In their rankings update today, Wilson has been dropped 24 spots to 50th in the country and is now considered a four-star prospect by the site.
Ultimately, the rankings drop is semantics as Wilson arrived on campus this week after a dealy while trying to finish up some coursework from high school that would enable him to enroll in the spring semester.
But the rankings drop also underscores a couple of truths in recruiting rankings:
- Wilson didn't attend the Under Armour All-America Game, and oftentimes, the fallback excuse from evaluators is that "Well, we didn't get to see him up close while we did get to see these other players." Vernell Brown III was at the UAA game and he saw his ranking rise after a solid week.
- Stats for a wide receiver matter and Wilson had 677 yards in 2024, a decrease from the 872 yards he had in 2023. Is this the best way to compare high school talent to each other? Of course not. But it is a convenient and easy way for these sites to fall back on.
So even though Brown is now ranked ahead of Wilson, and we do like Brown's film, it doesn't change the fact that Wilson is more likely to see playing time in 2025 simply because of his size and where he would fit in Florida's wide receiver group.
Just keep his ranking drop in mind as camp season for the class of 2026 is about to get underway.
