News for Florida Football on the recruiting front hasn't been great for their class of 2025. The Gators have just 12 commits and are ranked 42nd in the 247 Sports Team Rankings with just a month to go before Early Signing Day.

But the Gators appear to be in the hunt to grab a QB for this cycle as an FSU commit has put himself back on the market.

Florida Football: Keeping Up With The Jones

Tramell Jones is a QB listed at 6'0" and 196 pounds out of Jacksonville. He helped lead Mandarin High to the 4M state title game last season. He has missed the bulk of the 2024 season due to a leg injury.

Jones is considered a three-star prospect by On3 and 247, while ESPN and Rivals have him as a four-star, with Rivals listing him as the 36th best overall player in the country.

Based on the film, we are not willing to rank him that high, but there are plenty of positives. He stands tall in the pocket, never feels panicked, and keeps clean mechanics, whether he is throwing a screen or throwing 30+ yards downfield. He is capable of scrambling, though that's not a key component of his game.

What we would say holds him back from us declaring he's a bonafide top 100 player is that he tends to float his passes rather than drive through them. Also, fair or unfair, being 6'0" is a knock against trying to project him at the next level.

For as bad as Florida's season has been, it has at least been better than FSU's, and Jones has seen enough to de-commit from the Seminoles today. The belief is that Florida is in line to make the flip, and Jones will be in attendance this Saturday against LSU.

Also notable is that his Mandarin teammate Jaime Ffrench, a five-star wide receiver committed to Texas, is also going to be in town for the LSU game.

On paper, Jones wouldn't be a candidate to unseat DJ Lagway. But as this season has proven, a team can never have too much depth at QB, and they would be a worthwhile addition to the Gators.
