Florida Football is set to host former Ohio State defensive lineman Hero Kanu for an official visit based on reports from On3 and Swamp247.

Kanu, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound junior, entered the NCAA Transfer Portal last week after Ohio State won the national title against Notre Dame last Monday.

Kanu, a native of Germany, played two seasons with the Buckeyes. After redshirting in 2022, he appeared in 11 games during the 2023 season, recording 10 tackles and one sack. In 2024 he took 124 snaps and was credited with four tackles.

He was a highly regarded recruit out of Santa Margarita Catholic High School in California and was ranked as the No. 121 overall player in the 2022 On3 Industry Ranking. Kanu had offers from Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. Florida did go after Kanu during his recruitment process, but he did not make an official visit to Gainesville before committing to the Buckeyes.

Florida has Caleb Banks, Brien Taylor, and Jamari Lyons returning along the interior of the defensive line, but they are in need of reinforcements at defensive tackle after losing Cam Jackson, Desmond Watson, and Joey Slackman.

The Gators have currently signed five players out of the transfer portal.
