Florida Football gets massive news along its defensive line for 2025
While Florida Football is allegedly planning to go big in the transfer portal this offseason, sometimes the best talent a team can get is to retain talent.
And the Gators got huge news on Monday that one of their top members along the defensive line would be coming back for the 2025 season when the NFL looked like a real possibility.
Florida Football: Money in the Banks
Caleb Banks announced he is coming back to Florida for the 2025 season. He came to Florida after two years at Louisville and took 364 snaps during the 2023 campaign. The Detroit native was credited with one sack in 2023 and 19 total tackles on the year.
In some ways, his metrics in 2024 are similar to what he showcased in 2023. He was credited with 21 total tackles and 19 hurries on the QB, the same number he had in 2023.
But Banks seemed to have unlocked something over the last three games of the season as he had five hurries against LSU, three against Ole Miss, and two against FSU. He also had a sack and a forced fumble against LSU, and he was credited with 2.5 sacks against Ole Miss.
Some thought that the late surge might propel Banks to forego his senior season and try to take his talents to the NFL, but Banks announced today that he would instead return to Florida in 2025.
His return to the interior of Florida's defensive line is huge because the Gators are losing Cam Jackson and Desmond Watson, in addition to Joey Slackman and Kelby Collins, heading into the 2025 season.
Defensive tackle is one of Florida's priority needs in the transfer portal that opens today, but the return of Banks leaves one less player Florida needs to grab over the offseason.
