Last year, when Florida got eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, Kevin O’Sullivan went viral for all the wrong reasons. There had been some shuffling with the schedule in Conway, and O’Sullivan was none too pleased. He was seen on camera going after Coasal’s staff, and it earned him a suspension from Scott Stricklin to open the 2026 campaign.
Coastal Carolina coach Kevin Schnall called out O’Sullivan’s antics last year. But it turns out that Schnall believes in rules for thee but not for me.
Florida fans take note as Coastal Carolina pouts
Last year, after Florida was eliminated and Coastal Carolina knocked off ECU to advance to Super Regionals, Schnall made sure to make it clear he wasn’t happy with O’Sullivan. Last year, he stated:
"One last thing I have is I have to say this, and I don't know if I'm supposed to say this or not, but I believe in standing up for what's right and what transpired this morning on our field. Another coach disrespected our associate AD who works as hard as anybody in our entire program. He disrespected our field crew who are the salt of the earth. These guys would do anything for our program.
It's not okay. And this needs to be brought up. Absolutely disrespectful. As a coach, it's our job to mentor young kids. And the way he treated the two site reps, the way he treated our associate AD, the way he treated our field crew, it's absolutely unacceptable. And that's what I'm most disappointed about. This is a national champion coach who thinks he can come in here and try to bully people around."
So it is notable that after Coastal Carolina was eliminated this year by FSU, Schnall wasn’t exactly pleased with how the scheduling went down. Coastal Carolina lost its opener on Friday, and then had its Saturday game delayed and eventually postponed to Sunday, where Coastal Carolina lost:
“We we talk a lot about student athlete wellness we were eating dinner at three in the morning we showed up here at 11:30 right again this is part of hosting a regional that's the value of hosting a regional well you go in a rain delay, if you're the home team, you shower, you clean your uniform. Can you imagine the way our guys felt in that uniform? Wet, sweaty.
Not comfortable, itchy. How many times can we go down, get back up, go down, get back up? And it got to the point where said enough is enough. I mean you can only eat so many wraps. It was mismanaged but that's all I'm going to say about that. Utterly mismanaged.”
Does Schnall have a point in a vacuum?
Maybe.
Coastal Carolina's game ended at 1:30 AM on Friday and then they had to play at 2 PM on Saturday.
Does Schnall’s point feel completely disingenuous and hypocritical, given the backdrop of last year?
100%
Because there is now a litteral 12-hour rule in the NCAA Tournament because of what happened last year in Conway. Coastal Carolina got its 12 hours.
So...
