The name Alvaro Folgueiras will haunt the Florida Gators for a while. The 6-foot-10 stretch forward hit the game-winning 3-pointer to lead Iowa to a 73-72 upset win over the Gators in the second round of the tournament. Before that shot, Folgueiras was risking ejection when it looked like he threw a punch at Alex Condon in the first half while they were tussling over a loose ball.
Now Folgueiras is on the move and who knows where the rising senior from Malaga, Spain will end up. Wouldn't it be fun if he ended up in Gainesville? Seems unlikely, but Thomas Haugh is probably heading to the NBA Draft, so maybe there's room? Who knows.Â

"I just thought it was a jump ball and I just wanted to set the standard for the game with — I'm going to make sure I get every loose ball and set the standard with our physicality," Condon said about the play. "Ended up with a double technical, and they got the ball back. I didn't really know if he hit me or not, but I'm sure we'll see it and look back at it."
Gator villain Alvaro Folgueiras is in the transfer portal
Todd Golden added that the officials told him that Folgueiras threw a punch, but because it didn't land, he wasn't ejected. Doesn't really make sense, but it is what it is. While Folgueiras future is unknown, he should be a high-value player in the portal. Folgueiras was the Horizon Player of the Year at Robert Morris before following Ben McCollum to Iowa. He fits a lot of systems as a stretch forward that can shoot from the perimeter and isn't afraid to battle on the inside. Folgueiras' performance in the tournament proves that he isn't afraid of the big moments.
For what it's worth, I don't think Folgueiras will be a Gator, it just seems unlikely. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Gators and Folgueiras meet again on a court in the near future.Â
