Now that the transfer portal is starting to wind down for the Gators, Jon Sumrall and his staff have been steadily turning their attention to high school recruiting as offers have started to fly out left and right.

This week, the Gators have extended an offer to Kingston Preyear, who is currently one of the top-rated QBs out of the class of 2028.

Florida offered top three QB Kingston Preyear

Preyear is out of Alabama and is listed at 6’3” and 195 pounds. 247 has him rated as the 3rd best QB in the class of 2028 and the 20th best player overall. Rivals currently has him as a three-star, though that is probably going to change in the near future as the class of 2028 rankings start to catch up.

On film, keeping in mind he is just a sophomore, Preyear can absolutely sling it. He has multiple throws from the year where he is hitting his receivers in stride, 50 yards down the field for a touchdown. He moves around the pocket well, does well to keep his eyes up as he moves, and looks very comfortable when he has to throw on the run.

He finished his sophomore campaign with Benjamin Russel High, throwing for 3,026 yards, 34 TD, and just 5 interceptions. He was also credited with another 518 yards rushing and made it to the 6A state semifinals in Alabama.

Despite his lofty ranking, Florida is one of the early schools to hop on the offer train to Preyear. Of SEC schools, only Ole Miss, Auburn, and Vanderbilt have also extended offers, while no one in the Big Ten has hopped in.

There will still be a long way to go in the recruitment of Preyear, as well as with his development. At least based on his sophomore film, he will need to showcase that he can hit intermediate throws as well as he can sling it deep.

But knowing that QBs tend to get snatched up the quickest, Florida is wasting no time trying to secure one from the class of 2028.
