Some disappointing off-the-field news has come in for the Florida Gators and head coach Billy Napier. According to Swamp247, the Florida 247Sports affiliate, third-year Florida defensive back Dijon Johnson was arrested last week on several charges.

Per the report from Swamp247, Johnson was arrested on May 2 and then was released two days later after posting bond. He's facing the following charges: possession of a controlled substance (third-degree felony), possession of a firearm during commission of a felony (second-degree felony), possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana (misdemeanor) and resisting an officer without violence (also a misdemeanor).

A Florida spokesperson told Swamp247's Zach Goodall that the program is 'aware of the situation' with Johnson. At this time, Johnson remains a member of the team, though this situation is something Napier and Florida will be monitoring closely.

Last season for the Gators, Johnson appeared in all 13 games, recording 27 total tackles and two pass deflections. In our post spring predictions for Florida that was just posted, we had Johnson locked in as a starter at cornerback for Week 1. Following the news of his arrest, however, things could change there in a big way.

The 6-1 cornerback originally signed with Florida as a member of the 2023 class. He did so ranked four stars, the No. 8 safety in the country and No. 107 prospect nationally according to the 247Sports Composite. He picked the Gators over Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn and many others.

Johnson really came on strong to close out the 2024 season and he stood out a bit to Napier. He underwent offseason surgery on his shoulder, which prevented him from being a full participant during spring ball. His true freshman season, he played in 12 games for Florida. This is a developing story and more details are sure to be on the way.
