The Florida Gators won't have the luxury of a bye week after a rough afternoon in Missouri. Instead, the Gators will have to dust themselves off quickly and show their maturity against a South Carolina team that is clinging on to life. If this doesn't serve as a bit of a wakeup call, what will?
As bad as the 45-17 loss to the Tigers was . . .and it was REALLY bad, it's just one loss and no one expected this team to finish undefeated. Not in the SEC and not with that schedule. If anything, the loss should help the Gators relax a little bit and put things into perspective.
I hate to say it, but this kind of game probably needed to happen. Sumrall said it himself, stay humbled or get humbled. Can’t write these boys off. Got a lot of work to do. Lick your wounds and get back to work.

Teams lose games. The soft teams lose a lot of games. Jon Sumrall hasn't coached many soft teams and doesn't want to start now. Toughness is a two-fold trait and the Gators will have to show their mental toughness during what promises to be a very serious week of practice. This loss and performance needs to be flushed ASAP, as a long season is still ahead.
Florida still has all of its goals in reach following the rough loss in Week 5
The Gators are no longer undefeated, and they will probably drop outside of the Top 15 in the AP Poll. That's alright. They are still in the picture for the College Football Playoff. They are still in position to compete for a spot in the SEC Championship Game and there are plenty of meaningful games on the schedule that are still coming up.
Sometimes it's easier to deal with a blowout loss than to lose by a last-second field goal, because there's no camouflaging what happened in Week 5. It didn't come down to one or two plays or a questionable officiating call. Florida was beaten thoroughly in all three facets of the game, so everyone involved with the program can walk back into the facility knowing that they all have to get better.
Florida now sees what the result can be when you don't show up ready to play. All the warnings that Sumrall put there this season weren't just coach speak. He knew that the Gators were always susceptible to a beatdown if they eventually got caught slipping. Now everyone knows what the worst-case scenario is and if they aren't motivated to never feel that way again, then Sumrall will have a lot of work to do in the upcoming seasons.
Missouri was a desperate team that was motivated after hearing how undeserving they were to be ranked. South Carolina will be a desperate team in Week 6 after three straight losses. Florida has to match the Gamecocks' desperation and show that Week 5 is simply a part of the growing process.
One loss shouldn't end a season and the Gators have to make sure that what happened in Week 5 doesn't keep them down.
