Following a fantastic week for Florida Basketball, ESPN's lead bracketologist Joe Lunardi has updated his bracketology projections.
We highlighted earlier in the week how Florida's resume stacked up with other contenders to be a one seed and at least for now, Lunardi doesn't see the Gators as one of the top four teams in the country.
Maintaining position
The Gators rank as the sixth overall seed and a two-seed in Lunardi's updated bracketology, a ranking that has remained unchanged since Lunardi's last projection.
In Lunardi's updated version, the Gators would face the Tribe of William & Mary, who would represent the Coastal Athletic Association's automatic bid. The winner of the opening round would then advance and play the winner of tenth-seeded Ohio State and seventh-seeded Arizona in the Round of 32. Lunardi's full reveal can be viewed here.
While Florida's position wasn't changed, their surrounding field did. Following a blowout loss at the hands of the Gators before a bounce-back win against Texas, Tennessee fell to fifth overall, losing a one-seed projection they have had for the entire season.
Iowa State currently holds claim over the final one-seed projection, while SEC foe Alabama jumped to third overall. The Gators won't meet the Tide until March 5th when Todd Golden and his team travel to Tuscaloosa.
What's next?
The last week was certainly one of importance, as Florida drastically improved their NCAA Tournament résumé through two quadrant one victories, one of which is currently among the most prized metrics in the nation.
Looking to build onto their momentum, the Gators won't do any traveling this week, welcoming Missouri and Texas to Gainesville. Both teams desperately need wins as they hope to push for an NCAA Tournament bid in the very competitive Southeastern Conference.
Florida is currently ranked 5th in the AP Poll, and the Gators represent a Quad 1 opponent that provides the perfect opportunity for the Tigers and Longhorns to work their way back into the field.
The Gators, meanwhile, hope to build on their momentum and leave the week with another two wins, possibly giving them the push they need to make the one-seed line.
