Earlier this year when Florida Basketball blasted then-number-one-ranked Tennessee by 30 points, the Gators made headlines by being the first team in decades to beat the AP #1 team by such a margin.
But given the depth of the SEC in 2025, the Gators got to play another top-ranked team on Saturday. By beating them, Florida is now part of an exclusive group of teams in college basketball history.
Florida Basketball: If It's Lonely At The Top, I'd Rather Be Alone
Florida joins a group of Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, and Alabama as the only teams in history to have two wins against an AP #1 team in a single season. Alabama last accomplished the feat in 2023 when they beat UNC and Houston in a single season.
Florida has now joined that group after beating Auburn 90-81 to pick up their second win over a top-ranked team. It was also Florida's first-ever win on the road against an AP #1 team.

What makes Florida's accomplishment even better is that among that group, Oklahoma was the only one who beat the #1 ranked team by more than eight. The Sooners knocked off Missouri and Kansas in back-to-back games in 1990 by double digits.
There is another exclusive group the Gators joined on Saturday that is more of a long-term accomplishment for the program. Florida picked up their 20th win of the season on Saturday and by doing so they joined Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, Kentucky, and Arizona as the only teams in college basketball to have 20 seasons with at least 20 wins since the turn of the century.
With the win, the Gators secure their 21st 20 win season this century.

Only other programs with 20 or more 20 win seasons this century:
Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, Kentucky, Arizona.
That’s it. That’s the list. https://t.co/m0GepKCPFV
It is a reminder that Florida has all the resources needed in the modern era to be a top-level program with consistency. Anyone who tries to accept mediocrity in Gainesville is simply settling to fall short of what the Gators are capable of.
