If there was one series of how emblematic the regular season went for Florida Baseball in 2024, getting swept by FSU was high on the list. The Gators have dominated the series in past years but dropped all three games to the Seminoles last season.
So Tuesday night was a chance for the Gators to reclaim their throne in the series and Florida passed with flying colors and had a kay arm out of the bullpen emerge in the process.
Florida Baseball: 23 for 30
Luke Heyman got Florida on the board in the 2nd inning with a single and that was the only run either team would score through four innings. Billy Barlow got the start for Florida and went 3.0 innings with three hits and no runs.
He gave way to freshman Jackson Barberi, who we noted in our observations of Florida was quietly putting together scoreless innings for the Gators. Barberi had his longest outing of the season, also going 3.0 innings and giving up just one run, a solo shot in the 5th, while striking out three.
Florida gave themselves a cushion in the 5th inning with three runs, capped off by a Colby Shelton RBI single. It was in the 7th inning when Florida officially pulled away after a two-run home run from Shelton made it 6-1 and Bobby Boser brought home a run in the 8th to make it 7-1.

Luke McNeille and Alex Philpott closed things out to give Florida the 7-2 win to move to 16-2 on the season.

More relevant, Florida handed FSU its first loss of the season and are now 23-7 against the Seminoles over the past 30 meetings between the two schools.
The two schools will meet again on March 25th in Jacksonville, and their series will conclude on April 8th in Gainesville.
