Annually, the matchup between Florida Baseball and Miami is prone to turn into a series with antics and hurt feelings. Between bat flips, mean mugs, middle fingers on home run trots, and things said to each other we can't repeat on this site, it has turned into one of the more notable rivalries in college baseball.

The seeds were planted early by Miami to try and suck the Gators into a chippy affair, but Florida kept their composure to emerge with a 6-2 victory to take game one of the series.

Florida Baseball: Upside Down U

Miami struck early with a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning that also drove the pitch count for Liam Peterson way up. The Gators had a shot to break things open in the 2nd inning with bases loaded and one out, but had to settle for just a single run to tie it at 1-1.

It was in the 3rd inning Miami started to plant the seeds to get into Florida's head. Daniel Cuvet, who doubled in his first at-bat and scored, was hit by a Peterson pitch with one out and a man on 1st.

Cuvet gave Peterson a look of displeasure. As Miami continued the inning, Michael Torres scored on a wild pitch and with time to spare from the wild pitch Torres gave home plate an emphatic stomp.

Bobby Boser erased those Miami vibes with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game at 2-2. After a Brody Donay strikeout, Brendan Lawson hit a solo shot of his own to make it 3-2.

From there, Peterson settled down and finished his night with 6.0 innings, two earned runs, and seven strikeouts for the most notable of his Gator career. Florida tacked on runs in the 6th, 7th, and 8th inning to make it 6-2.

Whether it was frustration, sending a message for the rest of the series, or just being good at baseball, Miami plunked Colby Shelton and Donay back-to-back, the latter of which was none too pleased.

Alex Philpott closed out the 9th to secure the win with no further fireworks.

The win moves Florida to 10-2 on the season while dropping Miami to 8-2. The win also ties the all-time series between Florida and Miami at 135-135-1. Kevin O'Sullivan is 42-18 against Miami since arriving in Gainesville.
