The NCAA baseball world was taken by surprise on Wednesday when a member of the national champion Oklahoma Sooners announced he was taking his talent at the plate to the University of Florida. Incoming junior outfielder Drew Dickerson announced on social media that he is committing to transferring to UF to join the Gators this Fall.

The 21-year old announced earlier this month that he was entering the transfer portal and made it official Wednesday that he is becoming a Gator.

Over the course of his two seasons at Oklahoma, Dickerson has hit a combined .290/.529, with a .404 on base percentage. He has seven doubles, three triples, and eight home runs, driving in 36 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has three total stolen bases.

While 2025 was a stronger season at the plate for the right-handed hitter from Lee’s Summit, Mo., he still performed strong enough to help lead the Sooners to the national title last month. Over the course of the 2026 season he appeared in 35 games, hitting .281/.506, with a .387 on base percentage. He totaled four doubles, two triples, and four home runs (tying the number he hit in 2025), driving in 21 RBIs (more than 2025) and 20 runs scored (also more than the previous season). He had one stolen base in 2026.

Dickerson, 6’4”, 210lbs hit .303 in 2025, with a .561 slugging, and a .427 on base percentage.

Defensively he is fielding 1.000, with seven putouts each in 2025 and 2026.

Outside of the NCAA spring season, Dickerson played in the 2025 Appalachian Summer League with the Elizabethton River Riders.  He appeared in nine games with the River Riders, hitting .200/.469/.250, with a .719 OPS. He hit one double, driving in three RBIs and six runs scored over the course of Summer league play, and had one stolen base.

Dickerson is a player that brings great upside to Gainesville, however they’ll look to decrease his strikeout rate in his last two seasons of collegiate ball.

As Nick Marcinko of GatorCountry.com put it, this transfer makes sense for the Gators as they have one player coming off a very rough injury and three outfielders who are draft-eligible as well, making a good chance for at least one or two of those to be drafted and leave the Gators with a shortage of outfielders.

As mentioned, Dickerson has strong upside and the ability to hit with power, it’s just his discipline at the plate that tends to lack and his strikeout rate.
