Florida is hoping to break its losing trend against Georgia this Saturday. The Gators have lost the last four meetings and seven of the last eight. A loss on Saturday would be the first five-game losing streak Florida has had in the series since the 1980s.
With that in mind, let's take a look at the previous five meetings and what swung the tide in each game.
2024 - DJ Lagway gets hurt
This is one of the great "What if" moments in recent Gator lore. Florida seemingly had Georgia on the ropes, and there was a real sense of belief that the Gators could pull off the upset.
Then Lagway got hurt, Aidan Warner had the arm strength of a U12 Pop Warner QB, and the Bulldogs eventually wore Florida down and pulled away late for the win.
2023 - Billy Napier's doomed trick play
Florida went down and scored on its first drive to inject some life into Gator fans. Georgia responded with 10 points to take a 10-7 lead.
Then on 4th and one from their own 34-yard line to open the second Quarter, Billy Napier called one of his infamous doomed trick plays when he had the ball snapped between Graham Mertz's legs to Trevor Etienne.
The play fooled no one, and Etienne was stopped easily. The Bulldogs hammered the Gators from there.
2022- Daijun Edwards gashes Florida in the 3rd Quarter
Florida fell behind 28-3 in this one and it felt like the talent gap between the Gators and the Bulldogs was going to be too great.
Then Florida put together a TD drive to open the 2nd half.
Then Georgia fumbled and Florida kicked a field goal.
Then Georgia threw an interception and Anthony Richardson hit Xzavier Henderson for a 78-yard TD to make it 28-20.
But on its next drive, Georgia RB Daijun Edwards had runs of 20 yards and 22 yards to score a TD and end any hope of a comeback.
2021 - Anthony Richardson fumbles late in the 2nd Quarter
The 2021 edition of this game is noted for Richardson getting the start over Emory Jones, and through the 1st Quarter, it seem like Florida could hang.
On back-to-back drive the Gators made it inside the Georgia 35 yard line, but missed a field goal and didn't convert on a 4th down.
Still, Florida was hanging around, and it was still just 3-0 with 3:11 left in the 2nd Quarter, and Florida had the ball.
3:11 later, it was 24-0 Georgia.
In between was a Richardson fumble, an interception, and a pick-six.
Richardson also suffered a concussion in this game.
2020 - Dan Mullen takes the wheel (route)
The last time Florida beat Georgia was in 2020, and that game didn't start out great for the Gators. Florida promptly fell behind 14-0, and it looked like Mullen's woes against Georgia would continue.
But the Gators clawed back and then exploded in the 2nd Quarter, thanks in part to Mullen gashing the Bulldogs with wheel routes that Georgia had no answer for.
Kyle Trask went on to throw for 474 yards and four touchdowns as Florida won 44-28.
