Saturday was as ugly as it could get for Florida. Once the dam broke midway through the 2nd quarter, there was no stopping what happened next.
For the most part, Gator fans will want to flush Saturday’s game from their memory banks, and we wouldn’t blame anyone who does. But when looking at snap counts from Saturday, there were some snap count totals that caught our eye and feel telling as the season progresses.
Five workloads from Florida that caught our attention against Missouri
Eric Singleton Jr. - 22 snaps
He wasn’t on the injury report all week, Jon Sumrall had indicated that he was healthy and ready to go, and yet in a game where Missouri dared Florida to throw the ball, we saw Singleton for just 22 snaps with just one catch. We’ll see if he can get north of 30 snaps this week against South Carolina or if his ankle is still an issue.
Jadan Baugh - 31 snaps
In a sign that Florida was willing to wave the white flag, Baugh saw his second-lowest snap count of the season. He had 52 snaps against Auburn and 48 snaps against Ole Miss, but as noted above, Missouri sold out on the run and gave Baugh zero running room. Perhaps just as notable behind him, Duke Clark saw 20 snaps while Evan Pryor wound up with 17 snaps, his most of the season.
Tramell Jones - 7 snaps
We aren’t going to go down the QB controversy road yet, but it does feel notable that Sumrall pulled the plug on Aaron Philo for the final offensive drive to give Tramell Jones a series. We won’t read too much into his TD drive just yet since it did come in garbage time, but it is also a sign that Philo’s seat isn’t set in concrete just yet.
LJ McCray - 14 snaps
It is safe to say that the LJ McCray offseason hype train hasn’t even left the station. On a day when Florida’s defense was lit up, McCray saw his lowest snap total of the season. He was credited with two assisted tackles, but it is clear he has been relegated to the back of the line within the defensive line rotation.
J’Vari Flowers - 5 snaps
Remember the first two games when it looked like Flowers was pushing to be a part of the defensive back rotation? That has been squashed in a heartbeat. Even last week, Flowers saw 26 snaps. But on Saturday, he was burnt on a 31-yard TD, even though he was playing eight yards off the line of scrimmage, and he was relegated back to the bench.
