Coming out of the spring game, the one player for the Florida Gators who caught national attention was five-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson. The freshman from Tampa had a monster day, racking up nearly 200 yards receiving, and visions of him parlaying his spring success into an outstanding freshman campaign like Jadan Baugh were rampant.

But then Wilson got hurt towards the end of fall camp, and he hasn't been seen since.

On Wednesday, Billy Napier gave an update that Wilson's debut might be on the horizon.

Dallas Wilson to start practicing soon

At his press conference on Wednesday, Napier noted that Wilson is making progress towards making his official debut for the Gators:

“We anticipate him starting (practice) next week. Right now, he’s dryland running.”

Next week is the first bye week for the Gators, which would give him two full weeks of practice before he potentially suits up against Texas. It also means that he is for sure going to be out against Miami this week, marking the 4th straight game he has missed.

As a recruit, the Gators started making noticeable momentum with Wilson towards the back end of the 2024 season as they went on their four-game winning streak. Although predictions were made for Wilson to switch from Oregon to Florida, he originally remained committed to the Ducks.

But a change of heart after signing day led to Wilson flipping and staying in the Sunshine State.

Wilson took everyone by storm at the spring game when he had ten catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns. It was also noticeable this offseason how much muscle he had added, and prior to getting hurt, he was getting some reps with the first team offense.

Given the state of Florida's offense, they need all the potential playmakers they can get, and the hope for Gator fans everywhere is that Wilson can get the pads on when Florida returns to The Swamp for their next home game.
