Early odds suggest that Florida might be in line for a strong road effort against Texas

The Gators are underdogs, but it's not as bad as you think.

The Florida Gators opened as 9.5-point underdogs to Texas, and over the past 48 hours, that line has moved to 10.5 on FanDuel, but it's still a few points lower than the two-touchdown margin that some would have predicted. And that speaks to concerns about both teams.

Florida's concerns should be well documented at this point. The offensive line is struggling and can't seem to block for Jadan Baugh, the downfield passing game is basically non-existent with Aaron Philo's arm strength issues, injuries to Vernell Brown III and Eric Singleton Jr. severely hamper the perimeter game, and the secondary is below average.

Texas' concerns have nothing to do with talent or lack there of... they are just prone to doing Texas things, and Steve Sarkisian is a classic underachiever. That has probably limited some of the faith that oddsmakers have in the Longhorns despite their loaded roster and having a Manning at quarterback.

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.

Vegas spread seems to give Florida an outside shot against Texas

This is a tricky one because there's nothing to suggest that the Gators won't suffer a third-straight double-digit loss, but that can be the strange thing about college football. No one, myself included, gave Oklahoma a chance in the Red River Rivalry, but the Sooners generated 14 points through special teams and defense, which gave them a chance to win with a field goal as time expired.

Florida's defense has to be a lot more aggressive against Texas because Arch Manning, for all the talent he has, will give you a few if you can force the action. The Gators have a pass rush at times. We haven't really seen it much in the past two games, but they got after Byrum Brown and Trinidad Chambliss, so the possibilities are there.

Then there's the mental side for the Gators. That fanbase is fickle, and they've been very loud in their displeasure with the product over the past two weeks. It's enough to crack a team that's probably a little fragile right now. That's where Jon Sumrall comes in and tries to right the ship on the field and in their heads.

"I have said this openly and publicly, when things are going good and everybody's patting them on the back, I'm probably an [expletive] in our building to everybody. Because I'm trying to make sure everybody's head still fits to the door," he said.

"And then when things aren't going good, like we have had two weeks where the outcome's not been favorable, I'm probably a little bit more calm, direct, reaffirming. It's my job to try to figure out how to help this team rebuild their confidence right now because they are a little bit shaken. "

There's a lot of nuance to this game. Florida needs to pick up the pace because these next three games will determine whether this season is a lost one or not. Texas might be angry after the Oklahoma loss and looking to make a big statement in front of an agitated home crowd that's tired of Sarkisian's record in big games not backing up his tough-talking attitude.

Both sides have something to prove, and the oddsmakers seem to think that the Gators are going to be better than what we've seen in October thus far. Time will tell if that's the case.
