Things just got even more personal between DJ Lagway and the Florida Gators. According to On3 Sports, the former University of Florida quarterback is set to visit the Gators’ rival Florida State University.

Earlier this weekend it was reported he could be interested in LSU, Baylor, or Miami, Louisville, Virginia, and Missouri, which would be one thing if he ends up at one of those schools. However, if the currently reported news of a visit to FSU turns into an offer from FSU, it would be the move that turns an already heated rivalry and make it that much uglier and remove the love Gator fans once had for him.
Lagway, the sophomore quarterback, in 2025 was just 213-337 with 14 interceptions. He accumulated a total of 2,264 passing yards with 16 touchdowns, which was just four more touchdowns than he threw for in 2024. On the ground he rushed for 136 yards on 71 attempts with one touchdown.
Over the course of his career, the 6’3”, 247lb quarterback from Willis, Texas was 328-for-529 attempts passing. Over the course of 24 total games, he had 4,179 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. On the ground he rushed for a total 237 yards on 122 total attempts with just one rushing touchdown (2025).
After Lagway threw three interceptions against Kentucky in November, he was benched by Florida interim coach Billy Gonzalez at halftime, replacing him with the true freshman, Tramell Jones Jr. That was Lagway’s 12th interception of the season in a season where he struggled heavily.
Soon after the Gators announced that they hired Jon Sumrall as their next head coach, Lagway hit the portal. But with a visit to FSU set to happen, Gator fans can’t help but think his benching could have been the start of his plan to depart Gainesville and now could be taking things more personal than some thought if things go well with FSU.
FSU fans, on the other hand, are also not taking the news well. Many have shown disinterest in him visiting FSU because of his play last season. But for the Gators, this could also lead to them having an advantage against the Seminoles in 2026 as they will know what to look for and expect out of Lagway if that’s where he ends up.
Either way, it’s a visit Gator fans are taking personal.
