Say what you want about Florida football and the early struggles this season, but there's no question that quarterback DJ Lagway gives the Gators their best chance to win. Some fans have been calling for him to get benched, but that's not going to happen.

However, Lagway has been banged up this season and some disappointing news just came in. According to Pete Nakos and Andy Staples, the former 5-star QB is back in a walking boot and he's dealing with a toe injury. That's a negative, but Nakos/Staples are also reporting that Lagway should be good to go following the bye to take on Texas come Oct. 4:

The bye is coming at the right time for Lagway and this Florida team as a whole. Following the loss to Miami on Saturday night, the Gators are 1-3 on the campaign, which is something that no one saw coming. This team needs to take this extra week to get healthy, with Lagway of course at the top of the list.

While the hope is that Lagway and Florida can turn things around, there's also no question that the young QB needs to get back to the basics and pick up his game as soon as possible. In the loss to LSU, he tossed for five interceptions, which was brutal to watch.

Against Miami, he finished with an awful line - he completed 12-of-23 pass attempts for 61 yards. It's hard to believe all he was able to throw for was 61 yards, but here we are. This was supposed to be a breakout campaign for him, but the opposite has been the case.

Not only that, but Billy Napier's seat is on fire these days. The season isn't lost yet, but Florida must do a 180 in order for Lagway to build some confidence and for Napier to win back some fans who have lost all faith in him. This latest injury setback for Lagway makes things a bit worse, but luckily he's not expected to miss any game action. He should be ready to rock for the early-October showdown against Sark and the Longhorns.
