Gator fans, you can relax, DJ Lagway isn't going anywhere...at least not right now.

The sophomore quarterback, who was Billy Napier's most important recruit during his three-plus seasons, said that he's staying with the program. Lagway has been starting for the Gators since last October and Florida is 10-6 in the games that he has started.

Lagway said he's focused on helping the Gators finish strong over the past five games. Wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales is the interim head coach and quarterbacks coach Ryan O'Hara will handle the playcalling duties.

"I'm forever thankful for coach Billy Napier. My family is forever thankful for him, but at the end of the day, you still have to continue to get better," Lagway said in Monday's press conference. "Each day is a chance for me to improve at my craft, and I'm excited for the opportunity."

The quarterback expressed full confidence in O'Hara and his ability to call an exciting offense. Florida is on a bye this week before the first big challenge comes for the new regime when the Gators travel to Jacksonville to play Georgia.

"Coach O'Hara has been there from the beginning. He's taught me a lot, even when I was in high school and during the recruiting process. I have a great relationship with O'Hara. [The offense] is going to be great. It's going to be fun," Lagway added.

Will a strong finish help Lagway stay?

Lagway is committed to the Gators for the rest of this season. After that, who knows what's next. The former 5-star quarterback is likely going to be a big consideration in how the coaching search progresses.

He has thrown for 1, 513 yards with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions this season. The low point for Lagway came against LSU when he threw five picks in a 20-10 loss. Since then, Lagway has turned things around a bit, and led an upset of Texas by throwing for a season-high 298 yards and two touchdowns.

"It's been a long journey, and I'm thankful for it all, the good and the bad. I'm feeling good. I'm in a good mindspace. I just love playing football. I'm excited to go out there and compete with my guys and leave it all on the field."

The Gators are 3-4 and will have to win three of the final five games against Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Florida State to become bowl eligible.
