This weekend in Conway didn't go great for Kevin O'Sullivan and the Florida Gators. After two blowout losses to ECU, the Gators were sent packing and were bounced from Regionals for the fourth time in their last six trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Even though Florida and Coastal Carolina never faced each other this weekend, that didn't prevent there from being drama between the two schools.
Time change causes rift between Florida Gators and Coastal Carolina
Florida wasn't directly impacted by the weather in Conway over the weekend, given they played the early game all three times, but the Friday and Saturday evening games were impacted. Their game on Saturday against Fairfield was moved from 12 PM to 3 PM due to the Friday night game getting over past midnight.
After beating Fairfield, Florida went to bed thinking they would be playing at 12 PM on Sunday. However, due to the game between Coastal Carolina and ECU not starting until after 10 PM, the start time for Sunday's game was pushed back one hour to 1 PM.
This created a rift with Kevin O'Sullivan, and there were rumblings that an incident occurred when Florida arrived at the field on Sunday, as the team had gone to bed thinking the game was still scheduled for 12 PM.
O'Sullivan was asked about it after their loss to ECU, and he made it seem like the issue was overblown and it was handled.
But after Coastal Carolina went on to beat ECU and move on to Super Regionals, head coach Kevin Schnall went off on the incident and went off on O'Sullivan:
"One last thing I have is I have to say this, and I don't know if I'm supposed to say this or not, but I believe in standing up for what's right and what transpired this morning on our field. Another coach disrespected our associate AD who works as hard as anybody in our entire program. He disrespected our field crew who are the salt of the earth. These guys would do anything for our program.
It's not okay. And this needs to be brought up. Absolutely disrespectful. As a coach, it's our job to mentor young kids. And the way he treated the two site reps, the way he treated our associate AD, the way he treated our field crew, it's absolutely unacceptable. And that's what I'm most disappointed about. This is a national champion coach who thinks he can come in here and try to bully people around."
It's just another backdrop in a weekend that Gator fans would like to forget.
