Brendan Lawson and Aidan King are 2027 MLB Draft names scouts can’t ignore

When Baseball America on Tuesday released their list of top-10 MLB draft prospects in the class of 2027, the Gators walked away with two spots, including the top No. 1 spot being filled by Florida freshman Brendan Lawson.

Baseball America on Tuesday released their top 10 college prospects of the 2027 MLB draft class, and the Gators are at the top of a list that includes two Gators in the top 10. Right-handed pitcher Aidan King just cracked into the top 10, while third baseman/ second baseman, Brendan Lawson was ranked by Baseball America as the top, No. 1 prospect leading the draft class of 2027.

Two Gators named to Baseball America draft watch list

Lawson is a 6’3”, freshman from Ontario, Canada. He played in 60 games in 2025, starting all 60, with 36 starts at first base, 12 starts at second base, and 11 starts at third base as he made his way around the infield, and served as the designated hitter in one game as well.

At the plate, the left-handed batter from P27 Academy hit .317/.417/.522, with a .939 OPS, with 14 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, driving in 61 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He walked 33 times, which led the Gators, and had eight stolen bases.

In the field Lawson had 252 putouts, 37 assists, and a fielding percentage of .960.

He was named a Baseball America First Team Freshman All-American, was named a double Second Team Freshman All-American (D1Baseball and Perfect Game), and was named to the 2025 SEC All-Freshman Team. 

King is a 6’2” freshman right-handed pitcher from up the road in Jacksonville, FL. and a graduate of Bishop John J. Snyder.

He appeared in 17 games in 2025, making 12 starts. He was 7-2 with a 2.58 ERA and 79 strikeouts over the course of 73 1/3 innings on the mound. Over the course of those 17 games, he gave up just 21 earned runs on 58 hits and 23 walks.

His 2.58 ERA led the Gators. He also led the team with a .213 opposing batting average against him.

King was unanimously selected to the First Team Freshman All-American by Baseball America, D1Baseball, NCBWA, and Perfect Game). He was  a 2025 ABCA Second Team Southeast All-Region team member, selected to the SEC All-freshman team, and in the classroom earned 2025 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll as well.

These two players look to keep their success going as the 2026 prepares to get under way and all-eyes will be on teams giving them looks while the ranked players are on the field.
