The recruiting class for the Florida Gators had some solid momentum to it in June, but after a string of solid, but not elite, commits, the train of prospects coming to Gainesville had slowed down.

The end result was that Florida entered August stuck in 15th in the 247 Composite Team Rankings.

But Florida just landed Davian Groce out of Texas, who had elements to his game of one of the greatest Gator players to ever suit up.

Florida Gators land Davian Groce

Florida was in a three-way battle with Baylor and Oklahoma to land the Frisco, TX native. Groce visited with Florida back in June, but it was still anyone's guess as to where he would land.

The top 100 prospect from all three major services, with ESPN having him the highest at 36th overall, was seen as an Oklahoma lean in July but Florida was able to claw back momentum and land Groce.

If Gator fans need a reason to be excited for Groce, go watch his film and then have flashbacks of Percy Harvin.

Groce can return kickoffs and punts for a touchdown. He can line up at running back and break off a 70-yard run. When lined up at his primary position, wide receiver, opposing defensive backs have no clue what to do.

Play press coverage and get burned over the top, or give a ten-yard cushion, give up something underneath, and still give up a touchdown after he breaks a tackle.

What stands out for Groce is how easy his accelerations look and how smoothly he can change speeds. He has legit track speed too to back up what he puts on film, and was the Texas 5A state champ in the 200-meter dash.

Groce is the type of weapon that an offensive coordinator dreams of being able to work with, and assuming the Gators get him on campus (because this is modern recruiting after all), he has all the tools to quickly become a fan favorite.
