Baylor just spotlighted the DJ Lagway performance no Florida fan wanted revisited

Baylor attempted to have Lagway do a deep dive into some of his Florida film, they just chose one of the worst games possible to do so

After two seasons in Gainesville, DJ Lagway opted to head home in the offseason and transfer to Baylor. It was probably the best for both parties involved as Jon Sumrall and crew look to erase the stains left over from the Billy Napier Era.

But as Lagway tried to introduce himself to Baylor fans, Florida fans couldn’t help but notice that Lagway’s new home probably could have chosen a better set of content to introduce Lagway than the one that Baylor chose.

Baylor uses clips from DJ Lagway’s game against Kentucky

Baylor posted on social media a preview of a sit-down they did with Lagway that had their new QB break down film during his time at Florida. The clip showed Lagway running for a first down against Kentucky, where he had to take on three Wildcat defenders to move the chains.

The play itself is a nice play, and in a vacuum, is what Florida fans thought they were going to get out of Lagway in 2025.

There is just one tiny problem:

Lagway would go on to get benched in that game after three interceptions, and Florida lost 38-7. It was the first time since 1950 that Florida had lost to Kentucky by at least 30 points.

Now, since we here at Hail Florida Hail are not going to pay the $80 for Baylor+, the streaming service from Baylor that has the full breakdown, there is no telling what other clips the feature uses. But it does feel like someone within Baylor’s marketing department should have taken a second or two before opting to use a clip from a game in which Lagway got benched as the teaser clip to convince Baylor fans to watch the whole thing.

They could have chosen clips from the 2024 Kentucky game when Lagway completed seven passes for 259 yards. They could have picked his 2024 performance against FSU or even this past season against Texas when he threw for nearly 300 yards.

But in a lot of ways, this clip was emblematic of the DJ Lagway experience as he could make plays at times that showcased his five-star ceiling, but he was never consistent enough with it.

Baylor opens its season on September 5 against Auburn.
