It smells like top 25 poll season in Gainesville and I predict the Florida Gators will be back in the Top 25 after a 24-27 upset win over the Texas Longhorns. This may be Jon Sumrall's signature win for the 2026 season, and it came at the perfect time for the Gators as they continue to navigate a brutal stretch of games.
Otherwise, it was as crazy a Saturday as we'll see in college football this season. It seems like everyone lost. Indiana's 22-game win streak was snapped in a loss to Ohio State and Notre Dame's 16-game win streak was snapped in a road loss to BYU.
Plus, a lot of teams that thought they might be in the CFP discussion got rude awakenings. I'm talking about Mississippi State and Missouri. Time to join the rest of us that are fighting for those spots in the Outback, Citrus and Gator Bowl. The good news is that we're heading to 24 teams soon, so everybody gets in!

The preseason top 25 course correction continues
The pollsters haven't seemed to punish teams much for the first loss, but that second loss in where they get you and I wonder if Alabama is going to get the demerits it deserves for getting waved in Knoxville. And Missouri has to fall as well, because losing 31-3 is never acceptable.
And the Gators jumped back in the poll at No. 22. I think that's fair. The Texas win is huge for the program, but in the grand scheme of things, I think the pollsters are starting to realize that the Longhorns are a bit of a fraud. That doesn't mean that Florida doesn't deserve credit for a huge win, it just means that Texas is a fraud.
And yes, I see who's in at No. 25, but what can you do? Everyone's moving on and clearly the last guy has learned from some of his mistakes and dropped to a level where he can be successful at. Not everyone is cut out for the big leagues.
