As more and more previews for the Florida Gators come out, it's time for one of the spiciest times of the year:
Anonymous coaches blasting each other.
In the case of the Florida Gators, Lindy's 2025 National College Football Magazine has been released, and in it, they interview coaches and give anonymous quotes about each other.
And whoever Lindy's Magazine got to talk about Billy Napier did not hold back on the state of the Gators.
Florida Gators blasted by anonymous coach
We won't know for sure who said this, but it's clearly someone who has followed the Gators and who is in the direct path of the Gators.
When asked about Florida, this coach said:
"It's a shame what happened to this program. I know Billy (Napier) got it turned around in the second half after another slow start, but he makes (Dan) Mullen look good. They can no longer out-recruit Miami. You look at the Gators players who go into the league; they're not ready.
They almost never pan out. I'll take a wait-and-see approach on Lagway. He makes a bunch of mistakes and is already banged up coming into the year, or at least he was in the spring.
They have some Sunday players on defense. Tyreak Sapp has got some real good size to him, quick get-off. You gotta watch out for the twists they run with Caleb Banks on the inside. They do a nice job with that."
Now, if you are keeping score at home, Florida finished ahead of Miami in recruiting last season despite the 41-17 beatdown to open the season. And the part about Lagway making mistakes is related to him struggling against eight-man coverages, which led to multiple interceptions down the stretch.
But the part about making Dan Mullen look good isn't completely unfair. We aren't going to rehash all the things we have said about Napier, but the simple reality is that Mullen went to a New Year's Six Bowl with Feleipe Franks as his QB while Napier struggles to get the proper number of players on the field.
Anthony Richardson's NFL struggles are probably to juice for players "not being ready" for the NFL.
As is the case with all these quotes, Napier is going to have a chance to prove everyone wrong. And if the "Sunday players on defense" step up and Lagway cuts down on his mistakes, Florida might just pull off a playoff season.
