Florida barely had to break a sweat against LIU as the Gators cruised to an opening 55-0 win over the Sharks to move to 1-0 to start the 2025 campaign.

Some things could have gone better, but there were plenty of positives to take from the night, and these are three of the biggest questions that were answered for the Gators.

Tramell Jones looks ready now

After DJ Lagway went out at halftime, the only real mystery was who was going to follow him as QB2 on the night. Billy Napier had hinted that Aidan Warner and Harrison Bailey were locked in a competition, with Tramell Jones getting reps here and there.

And yet when it came time, it was the true freshman Jones who got the nod, and he looked ready for the role.

Jones was 12/18 for 131 yards and two touchdowns in his one half of work. He took zero sacks and showcased that he has some scrambling ability as needed.

Yes, it was LIU, but he helped everyone take a deep breath, should Lagway miss any time this year.

Vernell Brown III should be a stud

Vernell Brown III didn't enter Saturday night with some of the national hype that fellow freshman Dallas Wilson had, but he left it with a viral moment that now has him on everyone's radar.

More importantly than being Florida’s leading receiver on the night was getting the nod as the punt returner after an offseason of speculation on who would get the role.

Brown III looked explosive in this role, too, and should be a weapon for the Gators all season.

George Gumbs looks explosive

Florida’s defense as a whole overmatched the LIU offense, and we didn't get any real answers with the Gator secondary given how little they had to do.

LIU finished with 86 total yards on the night and leading the way with the assault in the backfield was George Gumbs.

Like most of Florida’s starters, he didn't get a ton of snaps, but he was in the backfield on almost every snap he did get.

Gumbs  1.5 tackles for a loss and 0.5 sacks.
