A top 10 kicker in the nation just brought the Gators some special teams power

After "balling out" during Friday Night Lights camp last week, Aaron McWilliams is ready to ball out some more in Gainesville.

The University of Florida has secured another commitment for next year’s 2027 recruitment class. Per Blake Alderman of Gators Online and On3, Punter/Kicker Aaron McWilliams was on campus last weekend for Florida’s “Friday Night Lights” camp and after receiving an offer Saturday morning quickly responded by announcing he would be calling Florida home. This comes after he made his first visit to Gainesville on June 7 and falling in love then, and the way the staff continued to stay in touch with him.

McWilliams announced his commitment on X on Monday afternoon.

“Ever since my first visit, we’ve been in contact (with Jonathan Galante, special teams’ coordinator) for a while, for a couple months, but after my first visit on June 7, I balled out, coach told me I’m his guy, and he has always been in contact with me,” McWilliams told Tyler Harden of Swamp247.

He becomes the 24th commitment Jon Sumrall and the Gators have landed for 2027.

“It feels great. Releief, definitely, for me and my family that we finally have a home,” he said.

McWilliams is listed at 6’0" and 184lbs out of East Coweta High School in Sparsburg, GA. He is ranked by On3 as the No. 3 kicker in the class.

Last season with East Coweta he struck 60 kickoffs, averaging around 56.4 yards per kick, had a longest kick of 65 yards, and totaled 3,383 yards on kickoffs on the season. He had 38 touchbacks from the return teams.

As a punter, McWilliams kicked 34 punts in 2025, averaging 37.4 yards per punt, had a punt long of 61 yards on September 26 against Cambridge, and had nine punts downed or fielded inside the opposing 20-yard line.

McWilliams also attempted 40 Point After Attempts and made all 40. He attempted seven field goals last year, making 5-out-of-7. His longest was a 50 yard field goal. He averaged five kicks per game and scored a total 55 points.

When you look at his film, you can see the power in his foot. He gets the ball down the field fast, with a hang time of around four seconds. Opposed to having a foot that creates a lot of hang time, he kicks more of line drives that get down the field in a hurry. His consistency in PATs is also no surprise with how quick he gets the ball off of his foot.

Along with Florida, he had offers from Georgia State and Texas State and had talked with South Carolina and Alabama. But after Friday Night Lights, McWilliams made it clear he wants to play Saturdays in The Swamp and is committed to the Gator Nation.
