Florida Football Recruiting: Xavier Filsaime officially on flip watch
When it rains, it pours for Florida football, and a week of bad news is not getting any better for Billy Napier and crew in Gainesville.
On top of losing its top defensive player, its most dynamic running back, and failing to secure five-star offensive tackle Jordan Seaton, the Gators are in real danger of losing one of the cornerstone pieces of its 2024 recruiting class.
Florida Football: X marks the spot
Earlier this week, we highlighted the curious case of Xavier Filsaime. The five-star safety out of Texas committed to the Gators during their Spring Game back in April.
Texas has long been after Filsaime, but outwardly he has claimed his commitment to the Gators. When defensive backs coach Corey Raymond was let go two weeks ago, Filsaime expressed his dismay on X/Twitter, but also said on an Instagram live session that:
"“We tryna flip the program around that’s why we gotta stay bruh….it’s a business, Nape had to do what he had to do”"
Since that statement, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has visited Filsaime’s house, and Filsaime is slated to officially visit Texas next weekend.
Per Gerry Hamilton:
"“I think things continue to trend a little bit towards Texas here. That official visit, as you know, you make two visits in a short amount of time, that’s not good news for Florida.”"
And before we entirely dismiss the flip prediction, On3 also predicted that Jamonta Waller would flip, and look what happened.
So whether you buy into the flip prediction or not, the fact that Filsaime is taking an official visit to Austin a week before early signing day opens the door for anything to happen.
