Florida Football: Gators chastised for timing of renovation announcement
This week it seemed like everything went wrong for Florida football. Key players have left, the Gators are trying to hold on to their commitments, and parents are feuding on Twitter/X with fruit (if you know, you know).
Perhaps knowing it has been a rough week, the University of Florida tried to pull one of the oldest tricks in the book and sneak through a facilities upgrade announcement on a Friday afternoon.
People still took notice and were not happy.
Florida Football: Not a great ratio
In their announcement, the Gators announced that Ben Hill Griffin Stadium would officially be undergoing renovations that have been talked about for quite some time.
In the announcement, the Gators said:
"“The process will modernize the fan experience while maintaining many of the traditional elements, atmosphere, and capacity that Gator fans have enjoyed on game day over the year.”"
People read this and responded with, “You sure about that?’
As of this posting, the tweet had 206 likes, 212 comments, and another 144 quote tweets. Generally speaking, when a tweet has more comments and quote tweets than actual likes, it’s not a good sign.
Here are just a sampling of the comments:
"“NOBODY WANTS THIS. WE WANT TO HIRE A COMPETENT HEAD FOOTBALL COACH.”"
"“Finally I’ll have more leg room while I watch my belived Gators turn into the Nebraska of the SEC. Thank you Mr. Strickling.”"
"“Hey @ScottStircklin, worry about winning and hiring real coaches and not these trash renovations.”"
"“Fire #StrakvilleScott before he reduces stadium capacity! We don’t want a “modernized stadium,” we want the loudest, most hostile environment in the country!!!”"
"“These upgrades largely suck. Nobody asked for most of this.”"
":”Think the fanvase would rather renovate the UAA instead.”"
"“Losing fanship day by day with these moves and lack of elsewhere. Zero awareness.”"
"“You worried about this instead of firing Scott and Billy? SMH @Ben Sasse. What are you doing bro?”"
"“I’m sick of the athletic department man.”"
