On the wish list of almost every Florida football fan is for Billy Napier to give up play-calling duties and hire an offensive coordinator this offseason.

One name that is starting to gain momentum through back channels is a former Napier quarterback from his days at Clemson.

Florida Football: It’s who you know

Willy Korn was a former top 100 prospect in the class of 2007. He enrolled at Clemson and was a part of Dabo Sweeney’s first full season as head coach of the Tigers. Korn never got his career off the ground and was relegated to mop-up duty during his three years with the program.

Korn would finish his playing career with Division 2 North Greenville University.

The timeline is significant because the offensive coordinator for Clemson during the 2009 season was none other than Napier.

Korn went into coaching and eventually settled in with Coastal Carolina for six seasons. In 2020, he was named co-offensive coordinator and QB coach for the Chanticleers. Standout QB and one-time transfer portal target Grayson McCall was under Korn’s wing during his time there.

This season with Liberty University, Korn has helped the Flames to a 13-0 record while posting the seventh-best points per play in the country and the third-best yards per passing attempt.

Is he next?

Currently, there is no official reporting happening that Korn is the man for the job. Liberty just wrapped up a Conference USA championship over the weekend.

But there sure is a lot of smoke brewing that Korn is in the mix.

Given how nepotism works within the coaching ranks and how Napier tends to show loyalty towards “his guys,” it certainly makes sense that Korn would be in the mix.

There would be some concerns with Korn, including that he has never coached at the Power Five level, and he wasn’t Liberty’s primary playcaller this year (that was fellow co-offensive coordinator Newland Isaac).

As the meme goes, Napier likes to move in silence. We probably won’t get any official word on who the offensive coordinator will be until it is all but official.
