Florida Football: Rumors swirl on which Gators will enter the transfer portal
Now that the season is over for Florida football, it is time for everyone’s favorite game “Who is Entering the Transfer Portal!?!?”
*Cue dramatic music*
A couple of players have already made the leap into the portal. It was reported that Will Norman would be entering the portal, joining Adam Mihalek and Jonathan Odom.
It was also reported that Kamari Wilson was entering the portal, though that is being disputed by his father on X.
But there are other more prominent names that internet sleuths have been trying desperately to figure out if they are staying or if they are leaving.
Florida Football: Portal Season
Gator X was ablaze yesterday as rumors swirled over who was going to enter the transfer portal. Accounts with 300 followers tried to stir up that Shemar James and Tre Wilson were going to make the leap themselves.
James took to X to shoot down that rumor.
Likewise, a post on the Instagram story of Ricky Pearsall that was shared by Wilson indicated that Wilson was also going nowhere.
Then there is the case of Trevor Etienne and whether or not he is going to stay or go.
We here at TMZ, I mean Hail Florida Hail, have stated time and time again that we are not insiders. And as the James and Wilson rumors showcased, most rumblings from message board fodder are just that, rumors.
But people who follow the Gators a little more closely from the inside that do have credibility have indicated there is at least some smoke to the idea that Etienne could require some convincing to stick around for 2024.
We know his brother, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, has been vocal throughout the season about trying to get Trevor the ball more.
And in the modern world of the transfer portal, there are a plethora of reasons a guy would leave even if they are a prominent player. Things like money or the ability to be better featured to improve draft stock do factor into player decisions across the country in 2023.
It’s a reminder that while the Gators and Billy Napier have their eyes on the portal to beef up talent for 2024, the transfer portal gives but it also takes.
