Florida football recruiting has one of the best recruiting classes in the country in the 2024 cycle, with several 5 stars headlining the class.

Now, the Gators are trending to land another in-state prospect in the ’24 class that will add some depth to their DB haul.

Gregory Smith, out of Riverview, Florida, has been trending for the Gators per On3 since yesterday, and Florida now holds an 89.4% chance to land him according to On3’s RPM.

Smith may not be as highly rated as some other recruits on UF’s wishlist, but he’s a versatile athlete who could help the Gators out in more than just one area.

Florida football recruiting: Effective on both sides of the ball

Smith is listed as a safety on On3, but 247 has him down as an athlete, which seems like a much more appropriate.

Greg gets reps at safety, quarterback, and kicker. You know, because why not?

In the secondary this season, Smith has played in 10 games and totaled 24 tackles, a TFL, four pass breakups, an interception, and a fumble recovery.

As QB for Sumner High School, he’s played in all ten games completing 70/123 passes (56.9%) for 1,439 yards and a 30/4 TD to INT split.

His kicking stats aren’t quite as interesting, as his only duty there is kickoffs. But, while we’re here, he’s kicked off a total of 59 times and forced three touchbacks.

On3’s Industry Ranking has Smith ranked as the 478th-best player in the country and the 62nd-best player coming out of Florida.

But at 6’4” with room to add muscle, and the natural athleticism to play both sides of the ball, it’s hard not to like what you see on his film.

If the Gators do end up being the spot for Gregory, Napier will have a jack of all trades to work with for 3-4 years.
