Florida Football Players On Special Teams We Are Thankful For

The much-maligned unit, thanks to the leadership, or lack thereof, of a couch surfer hasn’t had many bright spots this season.

Putting two guys on the field with the same jersey number, constantly putting less than eleven players on the field to block field goals, and sending the field goal unit out too early are just some of the miscues that have haunted Florida football this season.

But one player has saved the day for the Gators more times than not this season.

Trey Smack

His missed field goal against Arkansas was painful because he has otherwise been so rock solid this season.

Smack didn’t start the year as the starting kicker, but Napier decided he had seen enough from Adam Mihalek during the Tennessee game and hasn’t looked back.

Lost in the heroics in Florida’s comeback against South Carolina was the day Smack had that allowed the Gators to be in position.

And the good news is that he is slated to return in 2024.
