Tim Tebow to receive honor at FSU game
Legendary former Florida football player Tim Tebow is set to triumphantly return to The Swamp, where he will be honored before his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Tebow, a three-time Heisman finalist, will be on the sidelines as the 5-6 Florida team takes on undefeated Florida State, with the Gators vying for bowl eligibility. The celebration will unfold in the sold-out Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, where Tebow will graciously accept an NFF Hall of Fame plaque, a token of recognition that will find a permanent home at the University of Florida.
Florida Football: Welcome Back
Throughout his tenure at Florida, Tebow showcased an impressive array of skills, amassing 9,285 passing yards, 88 touchdowns, and completing 66.4% of his passes. His contributions were equally remarkable on the ground, with 2,947 rushing yards on 692 carries and 57 rushing touchdowns. Tebow’s leadership propelled the Gators to an impressive 48-7 record, securing back-to-back 13-win seasons in 2008 and 2009.
In his four encounters with Florida State, Tebow boasted a perfect 4-0 record, delivering 668 passing yards, nine passing touchdowns, 262 rushing yards, and five rushing touchdowns against the Seminoles. Under his leadership, Florida outscored FSU by an impressive 97 points over four contests.
Coach Billy Napier expressed enthusiasm about Tebow’s return, acknowledging him as one of the finest Gators in history. The Jacksonville native, already a member of the University of Florida Ring of Honor since 2018 and the University of Florida Hall of Fame since 2020, stands alongside Danny Wuerffel and Steve Spurrier with a UF Hall of Fame bronze statue outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Tebow’s impending induction into the College Football Hall of Fame marks him as the 13th Gator to receive this prestigious honor, joining a distinguished list of Florida football greats that includes Emmitt Smith and Carlos Alvarez.
The Gators will kick off against Florida State on Saturday at 7:30. The game will be aired on ESPN.
