Florida football is looking to be an active player in the transfer portal this offseason in an effort to rebuild its roster and fill it with more talent and depth.

With coaches starting to be fired, teams are starting to get a sense of what schools they could see some players hit the portal from.

After Jimbo Fisher was fired from Texas A&M, Raymond Cottrell, a freshman wide receiver for the Aggies, announced that he was leaving College Station.

The Gators were one of the first teams to contact Raymond and should be a big presence as Cottrell looks for his second school.

Florida football recruiting: Come back home

Cottrell is originally from Florida and played his high school ball in Milton. He was committed to Florida in July of 2021 but decommitted a few months later in November of the same year.

At A&M, he only saw action in one game and has just one catch. It was a thirteen-yard touchdown against UL Monroe.

Even though he didn’t produce that much in his short season with the Aggies, there’s no denying his talent and potential. That’s why schools like Texas, Oklahoma, and Penn State have also reached out to him.

At 6’3”-210, he has the size to be a mismatch against most corners and bully his way down the field, as well as consistently win jump balls.

Cottrell also ran track in high school, posting times of 11.14 and 11.17 in the 100m. So no, he doesn’t have elite track speed that will leave defenses in the dust. But he’s very quick and has the ability to win a foot race in space. And even if he gets caught, he’s a hard guy to bring down.

Florida needs to pair a great transfer portal haul with their elite 2024 recruiting class. Cottrell is a big piece of that puzzle.
