Florida Football: Don’t like getting Gator Chomped? Only solution is to win.

A phenomenon seems to follow Florida football and any squad that reps the Florida Gators. Every opposing team that appears to do something good, whether it’s scoring a goal, making a catch, or outright winning the game, immediately resorts to doing the Gator Chomp rather than whatever team gesture their own school has.

And while it has long since jumped the shark and border on comical in some cases, the only way to prevent it from happening is for Florida to win the game.

Florida Football: Chomp chomp chomp

Following making the game-winning kick on Saturday, Missouri kicker Harrison Mevis hit a Gator Chomp to signify the moment.

After the game, several Missouri players joined the festivities, and Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden took to Instagram to post a picture celebrating the moment.

There is a hint of desperation that comes with a photo like this. It is often comical that the teams/players doing it don’t have anything relevant or iconic that Gators players could mock back.

If Florida football had won on Saturday, what would they have done to taunt back? Steal a rock from behind the endzone? Replay clips of Scott Frost throwing the Flea Kicker?

If you are annoyed that other teams keep doing the Gator Chomp, you should be. Could one have imagined entering 2010 a season where the Gators would lose to Kentucky, Arkansas, and Missouri in the same season?

And yet, if one wants to stop the chomping, there is an easy solution.

Win.

If Florida is tired of seeing weekly headlines of “(Insert opponent) trolls Florida with a cooked alligator,” then win.

If Florida doesn’t want Arkansas coming into The Swamp and hitting the Gator Chomp after winning in overtime, then don’t screw up the end-of-game field goal sequence and win.

If Florida doesn’t want Burden posting to Instagram, stop him on 4th and 17 and win.

And if the Gators don’t want Tate Rodemaker to come into The Swamp, become an FSU hero, and hit the Chomp, then only one thing will stop this Saturday.

Win.
